When Maree and Kane first opened the doors for the new Specialcise Hub it was an amazing day. The sun was shining, and a whole world of opportunities lay ahead. A very large, functional, inclusive and productive space where everyday we could create more lasting experiences for people with disabilities in the community!
Maree said ‘I want the Specialcise Hub to feel like a community space for our families’. And it sure does. Since the doors have opened we’ve seen many happy faces and treasured memories being created in these walls. Many artsy creations have been made in the arts and crafts room. Parents have attended our evening fitness classes catered for them. The SLES students have found their place in the world since leaving school. The juniors have made lasting friendships in our monthly discos. Participants have reached their personal training goals. Many delicious meals have been made in the inclusive kitchen. We’ve created lasting bonds with employers in the community who have welcomed people with disabilities onto their teams. Cassie the Occupational Therapist is working hard for her clients upstairs. I could go on forever about all the wonderful things happening within these walls!
It’s safe for me to say that Specialcise is a great place, and I’m honoured to be part of the team.
